The Virginia Society for Nursing Service Administrators was incorporated on October 31, 1983.  Today, the Virginia Organization of Nurse Executives, an affiliated local group of the American Organization of Nurse Executives, provides leadership, professional development, advocacy and research in order to advance nursing practice and patient care, promote nursing leadership excellence and shape health care public policy.

    Mary Crabtree Tonges PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN

     Mary Crabtree Tonges is Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at the University of North Carolina Hospitals (UNCH) and Associate Dean for UNC Health Care in the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Nursing.  Dr. Tonges currently represents the southeast region on the national board of the American Organization of Nurse Executives.  Since 2009 she has led the development, implementation and evaluation of Carolina Care at UNCH.  Carolina Care is a delivery model that translates caring theory into practice, focuses on the nurse-patient relationship component of Relationship-Based Care, and improves patients’ health care experience as measured by Press Ganey and HCAHPS.

    Meghan McCann MSN, RN, NE-BC

    Meghan McCann RN, MSN NE-BC is the Director of Oncology Services at the University of North Carolina Medical Center.  She holds her Master’s degree in Nursing Health Care Systems from the University of North Carolina with a Nursing Administration and Education focus. She received her Bachelor’s in Nursing from the University of Maryland as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland. Meghan has been a member of the leadership team in the Cancer hospital since the summer of 2009. 


    Lynn Newberry, MSN, RN, NE-BC

    Lynn is the Administrative Director of Professional Practice at Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News, VA.  Since 2010 she has served as the Magnet and Pathway to Excellence program director.  In 2012, Mary Immaculate was designated as a Pathway to Excellence organization.  In 2013, Mary Immaculate received the Pathway to Excellence award.  From this award, Lynn led the development of a simulation center Mary Immaculate Hospital and serves as the primary investigator for its first nurse led research study


    Ross Airington, MPA            

    As the Health Policy Analyst for the VCU Office of Health Innovation, Ross Airington advises VCU Health System leadership on federal and state health care legislation and regulatory change. Mr. Airington holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from James Madison University, and a Master of Public Administration from the VCU Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs.
